Tip number 1 – Mastering the workflow
Event photo sharing can be a time-consuming process if you don’t have the right photo sharing software to facilitate. There are several options for photo sharing software on the market that involve customer registration, which may be fine for a slow-paced low foot-fall job, however from experience when shooting at speed with high foot-fall, time is of the essence.
If you spend 30 seconds per customer, 200 customers per job, that’s over an hour and a half of your event time wasted taking customer information. This is why I highly recommend using QR photo-sharing software as it’s by far the most speedy and efficient way to share photos.

Tip number 2 – The Dreaded Web Gallery.
For customers, finding your photo on an open web gallery is a treacherous task. Although you may have a closed gallery for a specific event, getting the information to customers on how to access that gallery is not always easy.
We recommend photo sharing software that will link your customer directly to their photos, eradicating any risk of a GDPR breach and customer complaints, asking for photos to be taken down. Full albums can always be shared with the event organisers, but they do not have to be for public viewing.

Tip number 3 – Less hardware = More reliability
As a keen techy, I do love my gadgets, however at an event I try to rely on as little tech as possible. The more hardware in the mix, the more chance of something going wrong.
There are setups available that don’t rely on a tablet for taking customer email addresses to share event photos. Depending on the spec of your camera, the best way to share event photos use FTP to upload branded images instantly, meaning no laptops, no tablets, just you and your camera!

Tip number 4 – Making it cost effective.
Many image sharing software will asks for a subscription or commitment of some sort, which may not be what you’re looking for if you have low usage or a one-off job.
To get the best value for money, we recommend some of the ‘pay per usage’ apps on the market, making it easy for that one off job. Most photo sharing software will even let you ‘try before you buy’ so I recommend taking full advantage and taking some out for a spin.

Tip number 5 – Flexible workflows
From working in event photography for over 20 years, I am fully aware that there are a multitude of workflows required for different events depending on the client’s request. Some jobs will require instant photo sharing, some require editing photos before sharing, some require branding, some blank (the list goes on).
Try and find yourself some event photo sharing software that doesn’t dictate a singular workflow or incompatible hardware requirements. The more tricks you have up your sleeve, the better chance you have of being able to fulfil a brief.
